Unfortunately, many universities have been infiltrated by the DEI brigade (feminists in social sciences) who have moved into administration and they are the gatekeepers for hiring new professors by serving as chairs of search committees. They get a bump in salary and also screen out anyone who doesn’t fit the DEI mold.

Universities and Ed system were targeted along with media networks, celebs etc. to help instill "wokeness". Money is at the root - offered $$$ in "support" but required in return to push the woke plans. Ed system is money hungry like most everyone. Find the ultimate source of the funding, find the root of all demise in the US. Consider an enemy nation that has nearly inexhaustible funds from the profits of producing nearly all our goods for decades. The answer is on the "Made in... " label. Just check.

Nobody who thinks critically uses the word “woke” except to as a joke. You don’t seem to understand the hierarchy of industrial production either. Low-value production is outsourced because it has low value for America’s ownership class.

The word was written in "quote marks" indicating just such.

My background does include an inside view of production. Please check the Made in label on everything to determine where only "low value" goods are produced overseas (include electronics).

I’ve always thought the reason to go to the expensive colleges is who you meet there. The fact that they are filled with narcissism sort of proves that. Narcissistic people are ambitious. These are the people that become leaders. The DEI thing though is laughable and throws the whole dynamic off. You’re there because you’re elitist or you’re there to help the underdog. And are the two mutually exclusive? Ambitious grandiose people build. Like it or not narcissistic men built this country. I think we’re all figuring out that inclusion breeds mediocracy.

Agree mostly. Life, especially career, is many times about who you know, not what you know. I’ve been telling my daughter to make friends, and get to know people. Long-term friendships will serve her better in life than calculus.

You are not wrong. Networking is essential. It just makes sense. Math skills are laughable. That’s what calculators are for!
