I'm 100% in favor of "homeschooling", as the better alternative to government prison schools. But the biggest hurdle is the fact that too many parents are academically incompetent themselves. Even if they weren't spending 30 - 50 hours a week on their paycheck jobs, they lack both motivation & ability to homeschool their kids. Part of the solution needs to include a serious examination and analysis of school architecture. School classrooms are analogous to prison cells. Teachers are jail guards. Seems we need "school-homes". American education is a system-centered system with a process-centered process. We need to convert it into an education services-centered system with a student-centered process....
I am a retired officer. We have a Defense Acquisition University and excellent warfighting schools that really focus on education relevant to warfighting. Create slots at each school such that all officers get the schooling needed for promotion as soon as they are promoted so that they qualify for the next grade. All officers and enlisted warriors should be sent to schools they need for promotion. Once promoted to field grade they should be sent to all schools needed to get promoted up through O6. Once promoted to Colonel or Navy Captian, they should be sent to schools for flag officers such that if an officer is good enough for promotion, they get schooling for promotion to the next level. Why? Because in war time everyone must be able to perform two levels up. That would be a much better investment.
On the topic of the home schooling video I agree that homeschooling can not be the solution because many parents do not have the time or experience to do it right. We need to make school less of a jail and factory. We need to allow freedom of association. If students do not want to associate with trouble makers, the school should provide for choice to students to not be in class with disciplinary problems. We need to have reform schools fir students who can not be respectful of other students.
