Academic Publishing is a Joke
James Lindsay and Peter Boghossian proved what everyone already knew
Academic publishing has been the subject of much criticism and controversy in recent years, with many academics and experts agreeing that the current system is flawed and in need of reform. Academic publishing appears more and more as a farce or a joke. The system appears broken, inherently biased, and perpetuates a far-leftist view of knowledge that is disseminated to naive students. Regardless of one's perspective, it is widely accepted that the traditional model of academic publishing is in dire need of modernization to better serve the needs of researchers, institutions, and society as a whole.
James Lindsay’s Big Con
James Lindsay is a mathematician and writer who co-founded the blog "New Discourses," and is known for his criticisms of postmodernism and critical theory in the academic community. Lindsay and his partners once wrote an article that took language from Hitler’s, Main Kampf and turned it into a feminist polemic. The censors were unable to catch this hoax and it was published in academic literature. To those of us in the know this situation was hilarious, to modern 3rd and 4th wave feminists, the whole thing should be quite embarrassing.
